Exhibition by Magnus Voll Mathiassen (aka MVM)
June 12th – August 8th
Galleri Grafill, Oslo
The exhibition displays both commercial work and personal work. It is somehow a retrospective exhibition as it is showing personal work done the last ten years, juxtaposed his commercial work from the past five years.
Are there any similarities between the commercial work and the more “free” personal work? Are there some sorts of hybrids among the pieces, or are the two ways of working, commercial and personal, two autonomous entities?
The underlying theme of the exhibition is the struggle between artistic freedom and being cynical, keeping a romantic view of the profession and the work, and being personal and not being able to be personal. Somehow a “universal struggle”, but this is Mathiassen’s struggle, perhaps different from others, perhaps just the same.
Altogether more than 100 works are displayed.
